Large US Bank Saves Millions

Recently, we heard about a case involving a major U.S. bank whose data lab was asked by an internal customer to perform network modeling and testing, with an expectation of immediate turnaround. Normally, the lab would build a network topology or simulation, then inject the customer’s application traffic into it to evaluate performance.

The bank used a network emulator to introduce various impairments and observe how those impairments affected network convergence performance. By analyzing forwarding tables, they were able to stress‑test their Cisco network infrastructure. To achieve the fastest and most comprehensive network emulation and topology capabilities, the bank chose the Spirent network emulator.

The SNE product from Calnex helped the data lab reduce the time required to set up tests and build accurate network topologies. The average test duration was 72 hours, and voice‑related tests could last up to five weeks.

By shortening test setup time, enabling faster responses to customer needs, and improving testing efficiency, the bank saved at least one million dollars annually.
