Graduate System Test Engineer

Nikola Wostak

What did you study and where?

I studied Physics with Astrophysics (BSc Hons) at the University of Glasgow! One of my honour’s projects involved fatigue testing the OpenFlexure microscope, which taught me the right skills for this role.

What initially attracted you to the Graduate role at Calnex?

I have always been a problem solver, and I prefer to work with real world problems, which is exactly what Calnex does! The training offered with the graduate roles is also fantastic, there’s a real emphasis on constantly learning new skills which is perfect at the start of your career.

Tell us any highlights you have experienced since starting with Calnex.

A real highlight is how friendly everyone is, and all the activities you can take part in! I enjoy taking part in the badminton club during Tuesday lunch time, there’s a real mix of abilities, but everyone has fun.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

Every day is different, no two days are the same! You are constantly learning and trying to solve different problems, you never get bored.

Most challenging aspects of your job?

Sometimes, all the different problems can be really challenging if you haven’t seen something like it before, but there are plenty of educational materials, and the teams are extremely friendly and approachable, you’re never stuck for long!

What advice would you give to anyone considering a Graduate role at Calnex?

Whilst theoretical knowledge can be very helpful, the way you approach problems and your willingness to learn is also extremely important! Always be open to learn and develop your skills, and don’t be afraid to ask questions! If that sounds like you, 100% go for it!

Tell us something that surprised you about Calnex when you came?

Everyone at your location works in the same office so it feels like you are part of the team from day 1! While making a cup of tea for the first time during my first day, Tommy, the CEO, showed me how to work the hot water tap before introducing himself!
