Susie Hooper from Pause & Breathe CIC recently shared an introductory session to mindfulness with Calnex employees in the hope of setting up a regular class which would complement our current fitness and virtual wellbeing benefits – Yoga, Pilates and circuit training.
It can be difficult to understand what mindfulness is – there are misconceptions that it’s all about relaxation and meditation. Susie shared a little about what mindfulness actually is, and how we can develop the attitude of mindfulness in daily life. She also talked us through the benefits of mindfulness and let us practice it ourselves.
Susie worked as a Social Worker in Criminal Justice for 20 years. She was introduced to mindfulness through her work, and fell in love with it. Since starting a regular practice nearly 10 years ago, Susie has seen how it has helped her become less pushed and pulled by her emotions and how she is less tuned in to her inner-critic. After teaching mindfulness in her local community for the last four years, Susie set up a Community Interest Company in 2020 with her partner to make wellbeing more accessible.
It’s important to us that we support our employees in looking after their mental wellbeing which is why, after a lot of positive feedback from our employees on Susie’s introductory class, Calnex has now added weekly Mindfulness sessions to our wellbeing class calendar.
