In July 2022 the HR team in Belfast met with Kieran Hughes, Head of Fundraising and Marketing at Welcome Organisation, to find out how Calnex could support the local homeless community in Belfast. Welcome Organisation charity helps people affected by homelessness through a range of services including a Drop-in Centre, Street Outreach service, Crisis Accommodation for Women, Floating Support services and Mobile Health unit.
After speaking to Kieran and learning about the fantastic services they offer around Belfast, he offered some suggestions on how we could support the organisation. We were able to donate 120 sleeping bags for the Street Outreach service to provide to homeless people in Belfast. The Street Outreach teams offer support around greater Belfast every day of the year from 7am – 2am, the staff and volunteers are trained to provide potentially life-saving care and support for people on the street. Kieran was grateful for the arrival of the sleeping bags as they were currently running low, and the colder nights were getting closer. The Outreach teams were distributing the sleeping bags around Belfast prior to the Christmas period.
